Govt Arts colleges to get better facilities

Villupuram: Many govt arts colleges across the state would get better amenities in the days to come.

Delivering the convocation speech at Arignar Anna Govt Arts College, the Principal Secretary for Higher Education, K. Ganesan said computer and laboratory facilities in 67 government arts colleges across the State would be improved in the immediate future.

Previously students form government arts colleges were looked down upon, but in the recent days the infrastructure and standard of education in these colleges were on par to private institutions.

Citing his own instance Mr. Ganesan said that from first standard till graduation, he studied in government schools and colleges. Many who had studied in government institutions had emerged achievers in many significant fields.

He stated that restrained atmosphere prevailed in private institutions and while the government institutions provided absolute freedom.

He urged the students to work hard to realise their life objectives for which they should have self-confidence and motivation.

He noted that only average scorers - those scoring between 45 to 60 per cent joint the government colleges.

The Principal Secretary appreciated the earnest efforts of the teachers in putting the students on the right career path. He told them to adopt innovative strategies to make lessons meaningful.

Mr. Ganesan gave away certificates to 384 candidates, who completed the courses.
