A large number of job seekers of Assam turned up at the 'Rojgar Mela 2013' in which many employers from across the country participated and offered appointment letters to 766 participants in the mela, official sources said.
The two-day maiden Rojagar Mela organised by the state Directorate of Employment and Craftsmen Training had on the first day over 3000 job seekers registered and more than 500 getting shortlisted by the various employers participating in the mela, the Directorate sources said.
Describing the Rojgar Mela as a major success, the sources said at its conclusion yesterday, 1223 of the 5000 job seekers registered were shortlisted for appointment with 766 of them being issued offer letters at the venue.
The Directorate also organised career counselling at the venue under a departmental cell with over sixteen private institutes offering career counseling to the job seekers.
The participating employers from within and outside the state were upbeat with the kind of response they received from the job seekers who thronged the mela on both the opening and conclusion day, the sources said.
Major manpower requirements were for the hospitality sector and the private security agencies with the total requirement being over 9000.
An international recruiting agency also participated in the Mela with 150 manpower requirement for the construction sector in Libya, they added.
Inaugurating the Mela on Friday, Assam Labour and Employment Minister Prithibi Majhi elaborated upon how the state was working on capacity building for skill development of the youth to make them suitable for the job market.
