A private institute that will train professionals and students on cyber and digital forensics was inaugurated in Chennai on Wednesday.
"National crime records bureau statistics reveal that cyber criminals not only commit conventional crimes but economic offences causing huge financial losses to the government and financial sector," Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah said after inaugurating the Centre of Excellence in Digital Forensics (CoEDF).
The centre, which will function from Perungudi, offers post-graduate diploma and certificate courses in information security, digital forensics, cyber criminology and digital crime investigation process.
CoEDF chairman K Rama Subramanian said, "We are planning to begin courses from the first Monday of August . They mainly focus on professionals or graduates with sound knowledge in computers and networking." "We will also offer distance education with contact class options."
CoEDF is also carrying out discussions with cyber police and armed forces to train officers in advanced digital forensics, said Subramanian.
The institute has been set up with the assistance of Valiant Voora group. "White collar crimes are spreading fast. We wanted to take the lead to curb this inferno," said Voora Anjaneyulu, managing director of Valiant Voora Educational Systems.
University of Madras will collaborate with CoEDF to help its students with better practical training, said vice-chancellor R Thandavan.
