Government seeking suggestions on plus II examination reform evokes lukewarm response

The state government's notice inviting suggestions from people by April 15 to reform the Plus II examination has evoked a poor response. Government sources said less than 70 persons offered their ideas in response to the higher education department's notice.

Higher education secretary Gagan Dhal had asked educationists, vice-chancellors, administrators, people's representatives, students and mediapersons to offer suggestions on the examination reforms.

Mihir Das, the officer in-charge of performance tracking cell (PTC) of the higher education department, who is also the convenor of the six-member examination reforms committee, said the panel will meet on May 1 to discuss the suggestions.

"The panel will discuss the various suggestions before making its own recommendations to the government," Das said.

The panel is headed by director of higher education Satyakam Mishra. The others in the team include Debendra Nath Mishra, commerce teacher at BJB College, K C Rout, principal of JKBK College, Cuttack, who earlier served as controller of examinations at Council of Higher Secondary Education, Sushant Kumar Das, of Utkal University and B S Rath, political science teacher at FM College-Balasore.

Das said the committee is giving utmost importance to formulate a foolproof system so that incidents like the question paper leak do not recur and also to steer clear of possible manipulations in the evaluation of answer papers.
