The Maharashtra Public Service Examination (MPSC) has requested the University of Pune to reschedule, if possible, the university exams that clash with the MPSC prelims scheduled to be held on May 18.
The final year exams of all engineering streams begin on the day of MPSC prelims. As a result, students will be forced to opt for one of the two exams.
MPSC chairman Sudhir Thakre called on University of Pune vice-chancellor W N Gade on Thursday and asked if the varsity could postpone the exams to a further date for the convenience of students. Thakre said, "We made a request to the vice-chancellor so that every candidate gets to appear in the MPSC prelims."
Many candidates start preparing for the MPSC exam at least a couple of years before they actually appear for it. Missing the May 18 exam would mean that they would have to wait for another six months.
Balasaheb Naik, in-charge of the examination section of the UoP, said, "Close to 1.5 lakh candidates will appear for the engineering exam on May 18. However, very few of them would take the MPSC prelims. A final decision in this matter will be taken at a meeting of the committee members of the Board of Examination to be held soon. Students will be notified accordingly."
After the MPSC servers crashed days before the exam, the officials asked candidates to re-register and postponed the exam from April 7 to May 18.
