The evaluation process of High School and Intermediate examinations for UP Madhyamik Shiksha Board began on Thursday amid protests across the state. Under the leadership of Member of Legislative Council Raj Bahadur Singh Chandel, a fraction of teachers raised anti-government slogans to stress their demands to correct irregularities in pay structure and increase remuneration for evaluation work. Chandel claims he is supported by around 45,000 teachers.
Some of the teachers raised anti-government slogans at the evaluation centers but their demonstrations did not affect work. In some places in Lucknow, teachers raised slogans in protest of the government apathy towards their demands while in Varanasi, they attempted to lock an evaluation center. Senior office bearers of the UP Madhyamik Shikshak Sangh ( UP Board Teachers' Association) stated that the effect of the boycott call may be felt from Friday. "On the first day of the evaluation work, the attendance of teachers is usually slim. Also, the master evaluators (deputy head examiners) correct the sample answer-books to the evaluators so we cannot say that work suffered," said R P Mishra, a senior functionary in the association.
