Chennai: For the benefit of rural youths deprived of life skills, one more community college was inaugurated at Illedu village in Kancheepuram.
Eminent organic farming enthusiast, S. Balasubramanian inaugurated the NAF-IGNOU Community College, a rural human resource development initiative of the National Agro Foundation (NAF).
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Balasubramanian highlighted the important role that will be played by such colleges for uplifting the economic status of the rural community in the near future.
M.R. Sivaraman, trustee, NAF explained the need for bridging knowledge and technically skilled manpower gap that currently exists in India.
The college would initially offer certificate courses in agriculture. This will be followed by courses in agriculture farm machinery, food safety, hardware and mobile repair.
