Chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has announced that Meerpur Regional Centre in district Rewari will be upgraded into a university to be named after Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Addressing a Vikas Rally in village Meerpur in district Rewari today, Hooda said that his government is paying full attention to the development of all the areas of the state including Rewari.
"Even today, I have dedicated eleven projects costing over Rs 160.64 crore to the people of this area." he said. With the decision to upgrade regional centre to the university status, the standing demand of this region has been fulfilled. Hooda also announced that Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh would lay foundation stone of the country's first Defence University in Gurgaon on May 23. The chief minister said that his government is giving priority to education and scholarships are being given to the children of the poor and backward sections of the society from class one, so that they are not deprived of education and get equal opportunities for progress in life.
He also announced a sum of Rs 15 crore for development of Rewari and Rs one crore for the Meerpur village. Disputing claims of biasness in development, Hooda said that previous governments had ignored development of this area, but he had ensured that equal development entire state. "Statistics prove that from 1999 to 2005, during the government of INLD-BJP, a sum of about Rs 435.50 crore was spent on development of district Rewari, whereas during past eight years, a sum of over Rs 3328 crore has been spent", the chief minister claimed. Referring to the problem of water in Rewari region, Hooda said efforts are being made to augment supply of water.
"BML Hansi- Butana canal was constructed to bring Bhakra water for the fields of this area, but due to obstacles put by the opposition INLD and HJC, the matter is now with the Supreme Court", he added. Without naming Gurgaon MP Rao Inderjeet Singh, Hooda said alleged that his government is not doing equal development of all the areas.
