TN not to change its stand on class X examinations

Madurai: Tamil Nadu to maintain the same status on standard X board exams and there is no move to scrap them for now, Minister for School Education Thangam Thennarasu said.

' The board exams will continue because Union Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal has orally indicated that the decision to scrap Standard X examinations has been left to States. Only if we get a formal information from the Union Ministry, we will discuss the issue.'

Talking to press persons on the sidelines of the 'School Excellence Conclave' organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Madurai Zone, on the theme 'Thinking Beyond Classrooms.'

Mr. Thennarasu, said 'If we get any further communication from the Centre it will be deliberated and a final decision taken by the Chief Minister.'

Asked about a section of private schools opposing the proposed common school system/uniform syllabus, the Minister said the apprehensions were unnecessary. 'If anyone has objections, they can represent to the State government.

But 'Samacheer Kalvi' will be implemented in phases starting from the coming academic year by creating a Common Board for School Education.
Earlier, speaking at the conclave, Mr. Thennarasu said that the State government was bringing in Equitable School Education System because 'economic disparities started reflecting in school education and that should not come in the way of quality education for all sections of students.'

'Uniform quality education cannot be denied because of economic conditions of people,' the Minister said.
