The Allahabad University will hold the selection committees for recruiting teachers against the advertised posts from April 27. Though university authorities have finalised the selection committees for five departments, they have completed the formalities for others departments too and the dates of their selection committees would be announced later.
To clear backlog of vacant teaching posts and maintain an ideal teacher-taught ratio (TTR), AU had advertised over 500 teaching posts in February last year. Divided into planned (sanctioned to AU during 11th Five Year Plan) and non-planned (sanctioned earlier but were lying vacant), chunk of these positions are for assistant professor (known as lecturers). Of these, 318 posts are for assistant professors, 203 under planned while rest under non-planed. Likewise, AU needs 119 associate professors wherein 31 positions are under planned posts while remaining 88 are under non-planed category. AU has invited applications for 67 positions of professors -- 17 under planned posts and 50 under non-planned.
AU has already held the selection committees for various departments like biochemistry, bioinformatics, mathematics, statistics, food technology, economics, music, Arabic and Persian, Urdu, Centre of Behavioral and Cognitive Sciences and sociology. However, the recommendations of these committees will be disclosed in the meeting of the executive council, meeting of which has been postponed thrice this year.
Sources said after getting the dates from external experts, AU will again starting the selection committees from April 27. Sources added that interviews would be held for department of biotechnology on April 27 and 28 while that for law would be held on April 29 and 30. Likewise, On May 3 and 4, AU will hold selection committee for department of psychology and on May 5, 6 and 7, selection committee for department of medieval and modern history will be held. The selection committee for the department of political science will be conducted on May 8, 9 and 10.
Sources said though the dates for holding other selection committees have yet not been finalized, it would be done once AU gets the dates of external experts and Visitor's nominee.
