Jehan Sam Manekshaw of Theatre Professionals, a theatre training, education, and professional capacity-building organisation announced the launch of The Drama School, Mumbai (DSM). Scheduled to start from July 1, the institute aims to formally train acting hopefuls and effectively equip them towards a professional career in theatre and the creative industries. It boasts of faculty members trained from across the world, together with masters from traditional of Indian theatre. Critically-acclaimed actors such as Geetanjali Kulkarni (NSD), Padma Damodaran (MA, East 15 Acting School), Yuki Ellias (London International School of Performing Arts, London; École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq, Paris), Deshik Vansadia (Shakespeare and Co, Stella Adler Acting), as well as highly accomplished theatre directors like Sankar Venkateswaran, and Daniel Goldman will provide their expertise.
Located at the Mumbai Marathi Sahitya Sangh in Girgaum, known for being the foundry of Marathi theatre practice in the 50’s, the DSM will give performers a chance to train in an environment that demands rigour, focus, and discipline.
DSM will start with a one-year certificate programme in acting and theatre making which will include training, working on a professionally-directed touring production, and internships and research.
Minimum criteria for application is that you should be an individual with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work/ life experience, and have an active interest in the field of dramatic arts.
The DSM will be accepting applications from April 5 until May 15.
