Higher education is crucial not only for creating employable students but to also make society more civilized, Parliamentary Secretary for Higher Education and SCERT, Deo Nukhu said.
The state would look for opportunities where through collaboration with IGNOU, higher educational courses could reach the remotest location in Nagaland where colleges were not present, Nukhu, the chief guest at the 26th Convocation of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), Regional Centre here, said.
Lauding IGNOU for its endeavours in higher education in the state, he said, a paradigm shift has been noticed from national education to global education, from one time education for a few to life-long education for all, from teacher-centric education to learner centric education.
This shift, Deo said, made new demands and posed fresh challenges to the established education systems and practices in the country in general and Nagaland in particular.
He also gave away the Gold Medal Award to Wankmenlang Kharbuli and certificates to students.
