Officiating dean of Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) Prof Ajay Pandey would be the interim director of the premier B-school till the announcement of the new name for the post by Union HRD Ministry.
Pandey would take over from the outgoing IIM-A director Samir Barua, whose term expires on March 31 after two extensions, institute sources said.
Pandey joined IIM-A in 2001 and has been officiating as dean for the last six months. He is likely to assume charge of director on April 1, after his name was reportedly cleared by the institute's Board of Governor (BoG), headed by L & T Chairman A M Naik.
"I would be taking over on April 1 and shall be playing the role of a caretaker till the name of new director is announced," Pandey told.
HRD Ministry is likely to announce the name of new IIM-A director by first week of April.
This month, BoG shortlisted Ashish Nanda, an IIM-A alumnus; Prof G Raghuram, and Prof Rakesh Basant for the post, and sent the names to the Ministry.
Naik had said earlier that HRD Ministry was likely to decide on new IIM-A director over the next two weeks.
Nanda is Robert Braucher Professor of practise at Harvard Law School, while Prof G Raghuram and Prof Rakesh Basant are both faculty-members at IIM-A.
The BoGs had been facing the flak for the delay in selection of new director, as Barua's term first expired in November 2012.
