Lt Gen (retd) Zameeruddin Shah, Vice Chancellor, Aligarh Muslim University, said, the minimum attendance needed for a student to appear in AMU examinations has been reduced to 65 per cent from the earlier 75 per cent.
"This year I have accepted 65 per cent minimum attendance but I am cautioning you (students) that from next academic year 75 per cent attendance will be made compulsory.
Also the practice of submitting medical certificates for leave will no longer be acceptable...I know that in most cases medical certificates are fake", Shah said in a statement issued here.
He also asked students to be aware of nefarious designs of the some student leaders who, he alleged, have been repeatedly indulging in incidents of indiscipline at the campus during recent weeks.
Shah said he would only call for the police at the Aligarh Muslim University campus when there is a threat to life and property.
The students were agitating for the past few days in support of their demand for reduction in minimum attendance percentage.
