Kolkata: A new-age school in the city, inspired by the philosophy of Sri Sri Ravishankar, is ready to open its doors to students.
At the Sri Sri Academy, which will give students an opportunity to broaden their vision and deepen their roots, admission at the pre-primary and primary levels have commenced for the first batch of students. Distribution of forms has started from September 1.
Currently, finishing touches are being added to the seven-storey building plus a basement that makes up for the Academy. It is coming up on Alipore Road with a total area of 66,872 sq feet and is designed by Sri Sri Ravishankar. The floors housing the pre-primary and primary sections will be ready by October. The school is slated for inauguration in February 2010. The school aims at providing value education in a friendly, stress-free environment.
“Pre-primary classes will start from February and primary classes will start from April 2010. We hope to get around 1,000 students in the first year,” said Suvina Shunglu, junior school headmistress of Sri Sri Academy.
Pre-primary classes will start with 24 students each in six sections. Each of the classes will have two teachers.
Of the seven floors, the first three will be reserved for the preprimary and primary classes. At the primary level, the thrust will be on developing learning skills. The senior classes will be on the floors above. By 2015, the school will be complete till class XII.
Each of the classes will have an interactive board that will “bring life into the classrooms”. Students will get a feel of what they are learning through the largescreens installed in the classrooms.
The classrooms have been designed by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar with adequate light coming into the classrooms. As the school is located on a busy road, the classrooms will be airconditioned to keep out noise.
Keeping with the spirit of Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s thought and philosophy, yoga and meditation will be an integral part of growing up of the children studying in the school.
“We also have interactive sessions for parents, which is not restricted to those whose children will study in the school. These sessions are for every parent. We have already held four such sessions and more will be held in the future. The sessions are called ‘Knowyour-child’ and ‘Know-yourteens’,” said Shunglu.
