PIL seeking quashing of a government order permitting state-run schools to start English medium dismissed

The Karnataka High Court dismissed a PIL seeking quashing of a government order permitting state-run schools to start English medium at the higher primary level.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justices D H Waghela and B V Nagarathna dismissed the PIL filed by Kannada outfit Kannada Kriya Samiti and others observing there was "no violation" of section 29(2)(f) of the Right To Education (RTE) Act as contended by the petitioners.

The petitioners had sought quashing of the government order dated May 15, 2012 submitting that as per Section 29(2)(f) of the RTE Act, the medium of instruction should be in child's mother tongue as far as practicable and the government had violated it.

In reply, the government advocated submitted that it was only an additional facility and education in Kannada medium will continue.

Taking note of this, the bench observed there was no violation and dismissed the petition.
