Condition of Muslim women can change only through education

Union Minority Affairs Minister K Rahman Khan said the condition of Muslim women can change only through education.

Inclusion of Muslim women through education is top priority of his ministry, Khan said, adding "it is only through education we can really change the status of Muslim women".

Speaking at the valedictory function of three-day International Conference on 'Status of Muslim Women in Indian Sub-Continent' at the Maulana Azad National Urdu University here, he said "there is no other way of empowering ourselves other than education."

The situation was improving and more and more Muslim girls were cracking competitive exams and becoming IAS and IPS officers, he noted.

"The poor Muslims now know that education alone can transform their lives," Khan said.

Sixty-nine out of seventy-two recommendations of Rajinder Sachar Committee have been accepted by the UPA government, he said.

The Minister also said he advocates reservation as a right for the community, but it would serve a limited purpose.
