For class XII CBSE students, Tuesday's physics theory paper was a balanced one with virtually no elements of surprise. The only change spotted by the students and subject experts was that unlike past years, where there were a total of 30 questions, this year, there were 29.
Also, instead of two questions each of two marks, CBSE has introduced one four mark value-based question which was sourced from the chapter 'optics'.
While students found the overall paper easy and manageable, except the numerical part that was tricky, teachers said that the paper was quite interesting and balanced.
"The value-based question was quite interesting. CBSE's initiative to bring value-based questions enables a child in knowing real life. Also, it tested a student's capability of how much he/she has understood a particular concept," said Arushtitle, a physics teacher at Lucknow Public Collegiate.
The value-based question also posed no problems to the students. The question was picked up from the chapter optics read that a child's mother who suddenly got a stomach ache had to be admitted to the hospital where the doctor recommended for endoscopy. The doctor made the list of expenditure that shot through the roof. In order to get the treatment done, the child called up his teacher and sought help from him. The teacher, knowing the fact that the child belongs to BPL family arranged the money and even the doctors gave concession in the treatment. In the question, students were asked to bring out the principle in optics is being used in endoscopy, and also to explain the values reflected in the teacher and doctor's behaviour towards the child's mother.
Shashank Mishra from Ram Swaroop Memorial School said, "All questions were from the textbook. The paper was easy though the numerical part was tricky. The reasoning was interesting. A lot of questions were from 'Magnetism and Electricity'."
The next exam for science students is scheduled on March 11 (chemistry), while commerce students will appear in business studies exam on March 6 and those from arts have political science exam on March 8.
