Punjab Education Minister Sikander Singh Maluka on Friday raided an examination centre in Khalsa Senior Secondary School, Kharar and was appalled to see that girl students were sitting on the floor, writing their examination in extremely cold conditions.
On entering the examination centre he was surprised to see that the classrooms were stuffed with students far beyond their capacity, and many students were sitting on a single bench, writing their exams, making a mockery of the total examination system. There was no light in the examination rooms and students were being forced to write their exams in the dark.
Taking serious note of irregularities and lack of supervision at various levels, the Education Minister issued instructions to the Chairperson, Punjab School Education Board, to conduct a thorough inquiry to fix the accountability of officers/ employees who have recommended this school as the Centre and failed to discharge their supervisory duties while allotting a number of students to a centre far beyond its actual capacity. He has recommended serious exemplary action against erring employees and sought a complete report within three days.
The Education Minister has issued a warning to all district education officers to supervise the capacity of each centre and conduct checks to curb the menace of copying.
