Delhi University and University Edinburgh will be sharing resources in a broad range of subjects

The University of Edinburgh will soon be sharing lectures with Delhi University in the new session. Since DU will be moving into a four-year degree structure from the 2013-14 academic session, the two universities will have a broad range of subjects to share resources. The sharing of lectures will initially be in subjects including mathematics, robotics and computer science.

According to Steve Hillier, vice-principal international, University of Edinburgh, "Both universities have much to learn from each other through the lecture sharing series. The novelty of the initiative is that students in Delhi and Edinburgh will be linked in realtime, exchanging ideas and learning concepts in the context of two different environmental set-ups."

Also, Edinburgh and the Institute of Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine (InStem), Bangalore, in a tie-up have launched a new Centre for Brain Development and Repair to study disabilities that arise from alterations in brain development. The collaboration will be supported by India's department of biotechnology and will involve visiting professors from Edinburgh and Indian scientists working on joint projects in Bangalore and Edinburgh.

The centre will start with research on autism spectrum disorders. Further, the centre will expand its activities to cover degenerative brain disorders such as dementia, which is a growing public health threat in India.
