Fourteen students from across institutes science and technology, institutes in India were recently awarded Young Engineers and Scientists’ (YES) award by the Honda Motor India (HMI). Instituted by Honda Foundation in India in 2008, the award aims to encourage young Indian engineers and scientists who aspire for higher academic achievement in the area of eco-technology.
This year’s awards were presented by Takeshi Yagi, the ambassador of Japan to India. The programme is designed to provide researchers an opportunity to acquire higher professional education in Japan. A scholarship of cash equivalent of US $3000 each, was presented to fourteen students. Apart from that, all the recipients may claim $ 7,000 for two months summer training in Japan or Yes Award Plus scholarship of US$10,000 if they are admitted to, and join postgraduate study in the designated Japanese universities.
Commenting on the awards, Toshio Sugiyama, president and CEO, Honda Motor India said, “It is an honor to continue support to the young engineers and scientists in the country that is already a preferred source of science, engineering and information technology. This initiative is our attempt to empower the aspiring scientists and engineers of India by giving them avenues to excel in the areas of eco-technology.”
The awardees for this years awards are: Fuhar Dixit (IIT–BHU), Sanditi Hemant Khandelwal (IIT–Bombay), Siddharth Budhiraju (IIT–Bombay), Ayushman Shukla (IIT–Delhi), Ishan Arora (IIT–Delhi), Kush Bhatia (IIT–Delhi), Lerrel Joseph Pinto (IIT–Guwahati), Senthil PS Prakash (IIT–Guwahati), Saumya Kapoor (IIT–Kanpur), Vatsal Sharan (IIT–Kanpur), Mruganka Kashyap (IIT–Kharagpur), Mayank NK Choudhary (IIT–Madras), Nishita Mohan (IIT–Madras) and Pradyumna Paliwal (IIT–Roorkee).
