Out of 6,891 works under flagship programmes of Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan in the districts of Kishtwar, Doda, Ramban and Udhampur, 3,446 projects are yet to be completed.
This came to light during a review meeting held by the deputy chief minister Tara Chand in Patnitop, around 110 kms from here.
Chand was reviewing the financial progress of the SSA, when he stumbled upon records that Rs 62 crores was unspent and pending with Chief Education Officers (CEOs) and Zonal Education Officers (ZEOs) in these districts.
The Dy CM was informed that under the RMSA, upgradation work of only two buildings are likely to be completed by June 2013 in these four districts.
"Take fortnightly review meetings regarding these flagship programmes and mobilise your Additional District Development Commissioners to monitor and submit monthly reports to the Administrative department," Chand told the District Development Commissioners.
He asked them to verify the existence of constructed buildings and report about their specifications.
While noting poor attendance and enrolment in schools, he made it mandatory for all schools to organise monthly parent-teacher meetings and instructed all ZEOs to conduct awareness programmes for mobilising 100 per cent enrolment.
"Conduct panchayat wise awareness programmes in these areas for mobilising 100 per cent enrolment, particularly of the girl child," he said.
