Rajiv Gandhi University vice chancellor T Mibang has urged young researchers to come forward for rescuing age-old indigenous knowledge system hidden in the folklore and oral literature of multicultural tribal society of Arunachal Pradesh for cultural unification and social integration among the tribes.
Speaking at a national seminar on Folklore Proverbs of the Tribes of Arunachal Pradesh organized at the university, Mibang called for documentation of the indigenous knowledge system, official sources said here.
The seminar, sponsored by ISSR-NER, Shillong, was aimed at documenting folklore proverbs in immediate future which would act as ethical tools for the future generation living in this East Himalayan ecosystem in general and the tribes of Arunachal Pradesh in particular.
The VC while elaborating on significance of folklore proverbs in the multicultural society called upon the budding scholars to take up the issue seriously so that rich cultural and biological heritage of Arunachal Pradesh could be nurtured without losing its essence in future.
Prof Anil Boro, department of Folklore, Gauhati University while sharing his experience with young scholars from different parts of the country admired the noble initiative of the organizing committee in bringing such valuable topic in university platform for debate and discussion and for formulating policies for way forward.
