The Calcutta High Court stayed the selection process for secondary teachers by the West Bengal School Service Commission after being prima facie satisfied about alleged anomalies in the examination process.
Justice Debasish Kar Gupta directed that the WBSSC could not proceed with the selection process till March 31.
S K Kamaruddin and 39 others, who had appeared for the examination on July 29 and did not pass the preliminary test, moved the high court challenging the selection process.
Their counsel Bikash Bhattacharya claimed that the results, which were published on December 12, contained model answers for the multiple choice questions that had been given for the teachers' eligibility test, for which thousands of candidates appeared.
He claimed that it was found that in case of several questions, none of the options given were correct, but the model answers displayed one of the options as correct.
After going through the questions and model answers submitted by the petitioners, Justice Kar Gupta stayed the selection process after being prima facie satisfied of the contentions of the petitioners.
The court directed the state education department to form an expert committee to examine the examination process and submit a report by March 29, when the matter would come up for hearing again.
