Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar asked the Centre to propose the inclusion of historic Nalanda University in the UNESCO hertitage list.
Kumar told reporters in Rajgir before the meeting of the national monitoring committee of the university, "Nalanda University should be included in UNESCO heritage list without any further loss of time."
"I have mentioned this (inclusion of Nalanda University in UNESCO heritage list) to Nobel prize winner in economics, Joseph Stiglitz too," he added.
Kumar raised the matter at the committee meeting which was presided by Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia, official sources said.
This was second meeting of the committee.
Ahluwalia told the meeting that funds will not be a problem, sources said.
Kumar said the state tourism department was working to add more facilities for promotion of tourism in the hilly places of the state.
Ghora Katora site in Rajgir is being developed as a tourism spot where visitors will have to use horse carts as vehicles will not be allowed to ply there, the sources quoted Kumar to have told the meeting.
