The students wing of NCP announced a "chhadi andolan" (cane protest) agitation from February 4 against the teachers who have decided to boycott examination work across Maharashtra.
State NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik told reporters here that the teachers should not hold students to ransom and put their future in jeopardy.
Asked if the agitation, announced by state NCP students wing president Nilesh Raut, would include using violence against teachers, Malik said, "NICO does not favour violence." However, he refused to divulge any further details about the agitation.
The government should resolve the issue before the exam season begins, Rust said. Teachers have decided to boycott this year's examination season over non-payment of their arrears according to the Sixth Pay Commission and non-regularisation of non NET/CRT educators.
Last year, teachers across the state had boycotted examination work, crippling evaluation. Several universities, including Mums, were forced to turn to contract teachers as well as ones hired on ad hoc basis for evaluation work.
Teachers had resumed work after the state government promised to pay them the cash component of their arrears in two instalments.
