The Post-Graduate Programme in Agri-Business Management (PGP-ABM) by the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM-A) has been rated the number one globally for the second year in succession.
The programme has been ranked the best in agribusiness/food industry management global ranking by French business school ranking agency, Eduniversal.
IIM-A's programme beat similar programmes offered by universities in the US, Europe and South America. Paris-based ESSEC Business School came second followed by Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile at the third position. US-based universities Cornell University and University of California, Berkeley offering agri-business courses occupied fourth and fifth ranks respectively.
Out of the world's top 50, IIM-A is one of the only two business schools from India that made it to the rankings this year. IIM-Lucknow's PGP-ABM has been ranked 35th by the agency.
"IIM-A has been offering a apecial package in Agriculture since 1974. In 2003, this programme was re-engineered as a PG programme in Agricultural Business Management," IIM-A said in a statement.
The objective of the PGP- ABM Programme is to create managers for the emerging food, agribusiness, retail, microfinance, global supply chain and other allied sectors. A unique component of the programme is the Rural Immersion Module for about four weeks in addition to the summer internship programme for eight weeks. Under the module, students are expected to live in a village, study the rural environment that affects agricultural business and offer solutions.
