Over 200 students of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) here boycotted classes in protest against what they termed "lack" of amenities at the makeshift campus, officials said.
NIT, the premier technology institution at Karaikal was inaugurated during July, 2010 and it started functioning from its makeshift location, Aringnar Anna Government Arts College at Nehru Nagar.
NIT now offers three B.tech courses in ECE, EEE and Computer Science streams, with a total intake of 90 students per year. The frst batch will be graduating during July next year.
Students of second and third year classes boycotted classes and resorted to a sit-in complaining that they did not have enough class rooms and that the Library lacks adequate books and reference materials. Besides,arrangements have not been for placement at all, they alleged and demanded that their grievances be redressed.
