The placement drive at Delhi University is witnessing a new trend this year, with recruiting companies targeting second-year students instead of final-year students . In fact, according to CS Sharma, faculty and incharge of placement cell, Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), it is for the first time that several companies visiting the college have offered summer internships and later job offers to second-year students. More than 30 second-year students have got offers from companies like JSW Steel and Barclays India.
"This is an emerging trend coming in view. It can be attributed to the fact that many final-year students try to keep options open after securing a job offer. This increases the cost of hiring of companies and impacts their planning in terms of human resources," says Sharma.
In all, 140 students have been placed at SRCC. The highest pay package offered up till now is of Rs 15 lakhs per annum, while the average pay packet remains at Rs 6.5 lakhs per annum.
