Hyderabad: Focus on innovation and application of newer methods would help to create knowledge society of tomorrow, says Sam Pitroda.

"We have to focus on innovation, application of the methods of new generation through a new paradigm in creating Knowledge Society of tomorrow that also concentrates on inclusion of poorest of poor," Pitroda, the former National knowledge commision chairman said.

Pitroda, who revolutionised telecommunications in India, was delivering the Rajiv Gandhi Memorial Lecture on 'Knowledge for Growth: Harnessing India's Demographic Dividend' at the ASCI premises here this evening.

Stating that there were not enough universities in the country, Pitroda underlined the need for expansion by having more universities.

The government is spending USD 67 billion on education improvement in the country, he said adding, "By planting right seeds of knowledge, it would take at least next 25 years in creating the 'Knowledge Society' of tomorrow."

The education system in the country is based on the Western model, which he termed as a "flaw" as it catered only the richer class.

Pitroda emphasised for leveraging the existing infrastructure in the telecom sector on transforming education, health, PDS, NREGA programme, banking among other
developmental activities.
