The National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST) at Berhampur faces de-recognition for allegedly faking the approval of All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE). A Crime Branch inquiry is on against the institute.
After the state government sent a reminder to Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) to act against NIST within seven days, the varsity is mulling early action. "We will follow the procedure of law," BPUT vice chancellor J K Satapathy told TOI on Friday.
Varsity's registrar B L Agarwal said the matter will be placed before a university committee for deciding on the action.
Technical education and training secretary C S Kumar on January 9 sent a missive to BPUT reminding that the government had asked the varsity to take immediate action against NIST for the forgery. "Till date, the action taken report in the matter has not been communicated to this department. Please look into the matter personally and take immediate action against the institute for such forgery," Kumar wrote to the BPUT VC.
