Career and higher education prospects of more than 20,000 persons who sat for Bharatiyar University's post graduate examinations under distance education mode last May are now hanging in balance as the university has not yet distributed the mark lists and provisional certificates. Though the results were out in October last year, the university is not in a position to confirm the date the certificates would be issued.

Whioffered under distance education mode for which there were many takers, the university had not allocated adequate staff for the Department of Distance Education to prepare the male exams were completed six months ago, students are yet to receive the mark lists and provisional post graduate degree certificates because of the huge work load and staff shortage. According to university sources, most aspirants were employed in government and private sectors and they had opted for distance education to improve their career prospects.
"I had joined the MBA Course in distance education mode for PG as it would help to advance my career. But I am yet to receive my mark sheet," said a marketing executive of a private firm from Chennai. University sources confirmed that it was the first time that they were in such a crisis.
The university is offering 24 under graduate and 26 post graduate courses under distance education mode. Though the staff were able to dispatch certificates and mark lists of the under graduate candidates, no one knows when the PG certificates would be dispatched. Previously, the candidates were able to obtain the certificates within three months of sitting for the examination. The results of the examinations which were conducted in May and June were released only by October. But the mark lists and the provisional certificates were not issued.
G Senthil Vasan, Controller of Examinations of Bharathiar University, said that the process was underway and the students would get the mark lists and the provincial certificates soon. We had some administrative issues that aggravated the situation. We have rectified the problem as of now. The students will get their mark lists and provisional certificates soon," he said.
