Drought forces BAMU to reschedule all exams

The Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (BAMU) has decided to reschedule all examinations being conducted by the university on account of the prevailing drought situation.

It was decided following a meeting of university authorities with the college principals on Thursday. As many as 423 colleges with student strength of around 2.5 lakh fall under the purview of the university. The university has also decided to suspend activities like annual social gatherings and National Service Scheme (NSS) programs.

Vijay Pandharipande, vice-chancellor, said, "The exams for all courses will be conducted within a period of 26 days. A model time table has been drafted to shorten the time span as the exams used to get prolonged for around two months." Pandharipande also said that suggestions would be sought from all the principals and their doubts will be cleared regarding the rescheduling over the next two days.

"Steps will be taken to complete maximum syllabus for the semester before commencement of the exams. Extra classes would be conducted even on Sundays to meet the University Grants Commission (UGC) norms for the syllabus," he added.

Midterm activities such as annual social gathering and NSS camps have been suspended to spend the time in completing the syllabus. "The activities of NSS camps could be conducted in the premises of respective colleges for the current academic year," he added.

Meanwhile, the vice-chancellor said, the university has sent a proposal to the government regarding waiver of student fees, as the region has been facing acute drought.
