With political parties and social organizations in the district pressurizing the state government for a government arts and science college in Tanur, an expert committee of collegiate education department visited Tanur on Monday. The team visited the Fisheries School and Kattilangadi School, the locations which are under the active consideration of authorities to start the college. The team also visited the Government ITI near Tanur.
The team included deputy director of collegiate education B K Shobhana, superintendent O Balan and section officer M Suhail Farooq. Abdul Rahman Randathani, MLA and Tanur panchayat president M P Ashraf accompanied the team.
The team members have informed that the report on the visit would be submitted to the collegiate education director soon.
An amount of Rs 5 crore was earmarked in the 2012 finance budget to set up a government arts and science college in Tanur constituency. Abdul Rahman Randathani had submitted a report regarding the availability of land to set up the college to the government two months ago.
Education minister P K Abdu Rabb had said that the state government will give top priority to set up a college at Tanur, which is an educationally backward region.
