UP Board examinations are just round the corner, but the secondary education officials are yet to finalise the examination centres, where the students will take the exam. While the theory examinations for class X and XII are scheduled to commence from March 12, the practical examinations would be held from January 21 to February 20.
The district committee has sent a list of 124 schools to be set up as examination centres. Unlike previous years, self-financing colleges were not given priority over the government and aided institutions. Out of 124 selected centres, merely 21 were self-finance institutions. Disappointed with the selection, the education-mafia knocked the doors of high court, almost a month before. After hearing, the high court directed the secondary education director to take the final call. However, the director has been mum on the issue for the reasons best known to him.
The delay in finalising the examination centres will cost dear to the students. "Ideally, the list of examination centres should be announced a month before. It affects the students, as they are unable to concentrate on their studies," said RP Mishra, state secretary, UP Madhyamik Shikshak Sangh. He also pointed out that the teachers are unaware of where they will go as examiners for practical examinations. "To avoid biasness, teachers of a particular school are sent to another school as examiners to conduct practical examinations. Till date, no information on this front has come from the board," said Mishra.
When asked to comment, district inspector of schools (DIOS), Lucknow, Umesh Tripathi said, "The final list of centres was sent to the secondary education director on Monday. We are waiting for his approval. All other preparations for the exam are going on." However, director, secondary education, Basudeo Yadav was unavailable for comments.
Meanwhile secondary education teachers demanded reissuing of identity cards given to the invigilators. "A Mathematics teacher is intentionally given an identity card as a Hindi teacher and this way mass cheating takes place in the board examinations. We have asked the DIOS to issue identity cards to teachers who have spent three years in a recognized school," said a UPMSS member.
