The Government Degree College Udhampur organized its annual Alumni Meet “Alumni Reunion” on the eve of Christmas in the college here Monday.
Minister for Higher Education, Labour and Employment, Abdul Gani Malik was the chief guest while MLA Udhampur, Balwant Singh Mankotia, who is also the President of the Alumni Club, was the guest of honour.
In his address to the Alumni, staff and students, the Minister congratulated the college for getting enhanced infrastructure which is pre-requisite for growth of any educational institution. He also extended greetings to the people on the auspicious occasion of Christmas.
Malik said that the government is committed to prioritize expansion of quality higher education. He said that college has been doing admirable job and wished that the same quantum of dedication continues.
The Minister exhorted upon the alumni of the college to come forward and share their noble responsibility for the multifarious development of the college. He also asked the college management to organize regular seminars, workshops and discussions on various vital issues to get the best out of these activities for the society.
The MLA congratulated the College for creating a platform for the alumni to get together and participate in the development of the College. He said that Alumni Club needs to be strengthened further so that in future these clubs flourishes and contribute immensely towards the college and society.
On the occasion, various newly constructed and renovated blocks of the College (Boys) were inaugurated by the Minister which included Information Cell, Biotechnology Laboratory, APJ Abdul Kalam Science Block and Chemistry Laboratory renovated under Star College Scheme. He also laid the foundation stone of Automated Teller machine (ATM) of J&K Bank in the Campus.
A book of composed Dogri songs “Baakhan” authored by Prof. Tara Nath titled “Sur Lehri” was also released on the occasion.
Earlier, Principal of the College, Dr. Nutan Kumar Resutra, highlighted the major achievements of the College.
A scintillating cultural program was the main attraction of the program.
The Minister also distributed scholarships and awards among the students.
Prof. Sudhir Singh and Pooja Mahajan compared the program.
Among others, SSP Udhampur, Ashkoor Wani, Principals of different colleges, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, S.S Samyal, alumni, staff and students were present on the occasion.
