Bhubaneswar: Laxman Hembram, a Class IX student of Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) presented a paper at 'TUNZA' International Children and Youth Conference on Environment – 2009.
The paper of Laxman Hembram was appreciated by the selection team. Decisions will be taken on the Projects of all the 150 participants by October. A special international programme on environment protection will be organised from the suggestion of all projects in this international conference, according to the sources.
The event was organised by United Nation Environment Programme (UNEP) in Seoul from 17th to 23rd August, 2009.
Hanseo University of Korea gave a warm welcome to Laxman during his visit to Seoul. Besides the students of Hanseo University other distinguished persons of Korea also encouraged Laxman.
Laxman belongs to the primitive tribal group of Juang. Coming from a remote village in the forest areas of Keonjhar district, he got an opportunity to realise his dream of studying in KISS.
Laxman's selection to participate in this prestigious conference in Seoul is a matter of great pride considering his parents are poor labourers. Intellectuals have said that this achievement of Laxman is a testimony to excellent enabling environment in KISS.
Visit of a student belonging to backward tribal community to Seoul is a matter of great pride and happiness, said Dr. A. Samanta, founder, KISS. He hoped that students of KISS would be able to bring many more laurels at national and international level in the time to come.
