Unaided Institutions Associations flay Punjabi varsity

Chandigarh: Deploring the decision of Punjabi University to give permission to some 'off campus' colleges for providing MBA courses, the Punjab Unaided Technical Institutions Association (PUTIA) today said that the move had affected several All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) approved institutions in Punjab.

'The Punjabi University without issuing application to start off campus MBA has allowed few select colleges to start this course,'PUTIA President Dr J S Dhaliwal told reporters here.

He demanded that the students who had opted the off campus MBA colleges should be given an opportunity to select any other college in the second counselling withou paying counselling fees.

Dhaliwal stressed that as per rules every college needs to get approval from the AICTE to offer regular MBA programme. 'Even if the University wants to start the MBA in its own campuses, it needs to fullfil AICTE norms,' he claimed.

Hailing the step of the Punjab Government to establish a body to modernise techical education, he demanded that a representative of PUTIA should be included in it as 98 per cent of technical education is provided by private unaided colleges.
