Villupuram: Various works for the government medical college at Mundiyampakkam are going on in a full swing.
The college construction work is progressing and the buildings will be ready by March 2010. Admissions can start from academic year 2010-11, according to Collector R.Palanisamy.
Inspecting the works along with Superintending Engineer (PWD-Buildings) Sathyendran on Tuesday, he said that the government had sanctioned Rs.99.71 crore for the two-phase work.
The first phase being executed at a cost of Rs.41.01 crore, a 500-bed hospital and an outpatient ward, as also the basic amenities, would come up. Almost 75 per cent of the work was over and the rest was being expedited.
In the second phase, for which a sum of Rs.58.70 crore had been sanctioned, the administrative building, classrooms, student hostels, library and medical officers quarters will be built. For the other works, the tendering process had been initiated.
