Kalam advices students to aim big in life

Former President, Dr. APJ. Abdul Kalam was here at Chennai recently for ˜JaithuKaatuvom™, a guidance programme organized by Dinamalar addressing young school students.

In his speech, the former President of India urged students to have positive outlook in all the endeavors of life.

He asked students to have big aim stating that having a small aim is crime. He told the students that success is certain to those who have aim in life and those who work hard to improve their knowledge.

Narrating his experience as President,he said, he used to meet 200 students everyday and encourage them to be objective oriented. Among which, he happened to meet a young blind boy, Srikanth, from Andhra Pradesh who wanted to become the President of India. Citing that although the boy was blind, he had clear vision about his life.

He emphasised on four essentials for students, good vision, seek knowledge, hard work, and determination.

Dr. Kalam stressed on the importance of reading and encouraged students to have small library at home assuring that every child can succeed.

Narrating the hard work of his driver, Kathiresan, who is now working as lecturer in college, he said, although, a mere tenth standard student, he went on to complete his Doctorate with great determination. He also quoted the hard work, determination and uniqueness of true models like Thomas Alva Edison, Sir. CV Raman, Chandrasekar and Madam Curie that steered them get laurels for their various discoveries.

Finally, he closed saying that dreams aren't that which come in sleep, but those that doesn't allow one to sleep, in turn making one to work towards it.
