The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) recently held its first convocation ceremony in the Capital. Ashok K Chauhan, founder president, Ritnand Balved Education Foundation (Amity Education Group) inaugurated the event. While addressing the students, he said that company secretaries play an important role in the overall development of the country.
Encouraging students, he said that company secretary is a professional who is trusted by corporate, industry and public at large, since they are the torch bearers for the company and its stakeholders. He asked the newly admitted students to think beyond the boundaries and enhance their skills, capacity and employability.
Meanwhile, Nesar Ahmed, president, ICSI, informed the audience comprising students and parents about the new initiatives of the institute towards the emerging growth sectors of the profession.
SN Ananthasubrmanian, vice-president of ICSI, said, “Young professionals are looked upon as effective instruments of transformation throughout the industry. The emerging global scenario and the Internet have shrunk the world to a global village. In the current world scenario, company secretaries have the potential to offer valued added services and re-engineer themselves to meet expectations of stakeholders.”
The speakers emphasised that the perception of company secretaries, today, has expanded to beyond company law. Young professionals must keep pace with the increased technological advancements, respond to the speed of change and innovation, meet with rising quality standards, and be able to satisfy accelerated demands.
Adding to it, Rajiv Bajaj, chairman, NIRC of ICSI said that education and opportunities have created unprecedented social and economic mobility. There is a revolution of expectations and the surge of aspirations in an increasingly young India. He advised budding professionals to consistently develop their physical, emotional, psychological and mental levels.
