Urological Society of India said it would represent to the Government to have a five-year course for urology, instead of doing a three year general surgery course after MBBS and then doing 3-year MCH.
Dr R M Meyyappan, President, USI, told reporters here, "The three years general surgery course, after completing MBBS and then doing MCH in Urology, are a mere waste of three years, as general surgery is not related to the urological fraternity."
Here to participate in the 17th Annual Conference of Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry Association of Urologists, Meyyappan said USI would soon form a committee and work out a representation, which would be discussed in the Council meeting at Pune in January.
After getting approval, it would be submitted to Medical Council of India and Government for consideration, he said, adding that a five-year course directly after MBBS for Urology would be more helpful for students and also surgeons.
