An Indian life insurance company, Max Life Insurance, recently launched an initiative to promote writing talent in young Indians. Dubbed as of igenius, Young Author’s Hunt will eventually culminate in a book of stories, providing children under 15 years an opportunity to take the first step towards their literary aspirations. The book, to be published by Rupa Publications India, will receive editorial support from eminent authors including Ruskin Bond. Commenting on the initiative, Anisha Motwani, director and chief marketing officer said, “It is not easy for children to find publishing houses that will print their stories, so through this programme, we hope to provide a platform for India’s young and most engaging writers and encourage them to take up the art of story-telling.”
This initiative was announced along with the third edition of igenius scholarships. These scholarships awarded to 27 winners who received cash prizes worth up to Rs 1.1 crore, including two top scholarships of Rs10 lakh each. The scholarship programme that involved a robust multi-level evaluation processes was conceptualised in association with Derek O’Brien and Associates. Participants were evaluated by a panel that included Derek O’Brien, quiz master and member of parliament, Ruskin Bond, cricketer Murli and singer Palash Sen in addition to Neil O’Brien, ex-chairman ICSE board.
