The Indian Institute of Management Rohtak (IIM-R) on Friday held a discussion on the theme 'Revitalizing India's Growth Sentiments' as part of its 4th Foundation Day celebrations. The industry stalwarts and academicians, who gathered at the IIM Rohtak on this occasion explored means to thrust the Indian economy again onto a rapid growth path amidst persistent global economic and business slowdown.
The event was formally inaugurated by Mr Ravi Swaminathan, MD, AMD India and Prof P Rameshan, Director, IIM Rohtak, by lighting the ceremonial lamp. Prof Atanu Rakshit, Faculty Co-ordinator welcomed the guests and the audience to the function. Later, delivering the inaugural address, Prof Rameshan outlined the eventful journey of IIM-R so far and reiterated its commitment to create the enabling environment of faculty, systems and processes and for furthering its vision and mission. Swaminathan stated, "In the context of revitalizing India's growth sentiments, the need of the hour is to challenge conventional wisdom to leverage opportunities and threats presented by exponentially increasing population, mass urbanization, new modes of wealth creation and rapid technological evolution".
Other dignitaries such as S K Roongta, CMD, National Seeds Corporation of India, Prof Anand P. Gupta, Director, Economic Management Institute, New Delhi and Roopal Chopra, COO, Advel Group also shared their insights with the audience. IIM-R was established as the 8th IIM by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India on November 16, 2009 and is the only IIM in the Delhi-NCT region.
In a short span of 3 years, IIM-R has made a name for itself among the IIM fraternity. In the past one year alone, IIM-R achieved several significant milestones such as launching Fellow Programme in Management, Faculty and Management Development Programmes, raising its permanent faculty strength to an impressive seventeen full-time faculty members, organizing a case writing and teaching workshop for its faculty conducted by experts from Kelley Business School, USA, being only the 2nd IIM last year to complete its final placements and organizing events like Human Resources Summit, NCR Business Summit and Management Conclave.
IIM-R has also delivered upon its stated mission of moulding its students as leaders with unparalleled social commitment, by several successful initiatives such as the annual India for the Girl Child Marathon, Swabhav - which meets educational expenses of girl children of local auto-rickshaw drivers and also by having a very active Social Development Projects Cell. IIM-R is a member of Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and has signed a MoU with Kelley School of Business, Indiana, USA for research as well as academic exchanges.
