After Motilal Vigyan Mahavidyalaya's (MVM) refusal to allow students of private colleges to write exam from the college, Barkatullah University was forced to change their centre to other institutes at the eleventh hour on Friday. The exams are only two days away.
In an official statement, BU exam controller VVS Rajput said the university has changed the centre of Kopal College of Excellence, Extol College and Sardar Ajeet Singh Memorial College. MVM was supposed to be a centre for B Com third semester and ATKT. Now, Gandhi PR College, Danish Nagar, will act as the centre for all exams.
Besides, the BA (third semester), B.Com (third semester), and M Com (third semester) exams of Sardar Ajit Singh College will be held at Unique College in place of MVM.
BCA (third semester) exam and ATKT has been shifted from MVM to University Teaching Department (UTD of the BU. Another exam of BBA (third semester) will be held in Chitransh Amulya Dutta Post Graduate College in place of MVM.
Confirming the refusal to host the semester exams of private colleges, MVM principal professor Abha Gargav said: "We have a capacity to hold exam for 850 students. It is not possible to conduct exams for private colleges, which require almost 1,300 seats in the college."
Prof Gargav added that she had told the authorities earlier about the lack of space for hosting exams for private colleges. "Four rooms in MVM are under construction where exams cannot be held. I had told the authorities that the exams could be organized, if the rooms were ready," Prof Gargav said.
The higher education department this year had announced to hold private exams on semester system. "We cannot hold exams both for private and regular students simultaneously. Besides space, our teaching faculty get busy during exams, putting pressure on them during class hours. In such a situation, classes also suffer," Gargav explained.
She said MVM has to hold exams of Indira Gandhi National Open University from December 1.
"We have an added responsibility to manage exams for IGNOU. Our staff is always ready to host exam centres, but that can be possible only when proper infrastructure is there," she said.
