Top policymakers of the education department, along with education minister Bratya Basu, on Friday decided to begin mutual transfers of schoolteachers from March 2013. However, the transfers will be optional.
"We shall look into the number of vacancies available in the applicants preferred location and also give preference to those who have got more service experience," said Basu.
It was also decided in the high-level meeting that the schools will take three examinations in a year for students between Class I and VIII as a part of the Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE). Students will have to take an examination at a gap of every four months and report cards will be sent to their guardians to keep them updated.
"We have scrapped the idea of holding a half-yearly and an annual examination since it cannot fit into the CCE pattern," said Aveek Mazumdar, chairman of the syllabus committee. "The pattern is such that students won't face any problem when they are promoted to classes IX and X," he added.
The committee submitted a draft to Basu at the meeting attended by the president of West Bengal Secondary Education Board and West Bengal Higher Secondary Council. According to sources, the minister has already given a go-ahead for holding three examinations.
