National Institute of Technology (NIT), Silchar has adopted ten villages of Assam and will develop it as model villages in a planned manner.
NIT Director Dr N V Deshpande said, the Centre will sanction Rs 10 crore for the purpose and a Detailed Project Report has already been submitted in this regard.
Emphasis will be given on primary education and professional education while a solar project will be established in each of the ten villages, he added.
The villages included in the project are Tukergram and Chekerchum of Cachar, Defalala and Mokamtilla of Karimganj, Telkatta and Dhalcherra of Hailakandi, Laisong and Prasadamik in Dima Hasao and Mulaber and Tawpat in Karbi Anglong districts.
