Getting registered for a PhD degree will become a difficult task at Maharaja Sayajirao University. The Council of Post-Graduate Studies and Research also known as the PG Council has decided to revamp the format of the PhD entrance test conducted at the university.
So far, students seeking PhD registration were required to appear for only one paper which was meant to test their capacity in the fields of general awareness, social orientation, English communication skills, basic computer skills and reasoning abilities. Now, the P G Council of MSU has resolved that an additional paper of the subject in which the students wish to register for the PhD and a personality test and interview before the research committee of department will be included in the process of the PhD entrance test.
Dr Amit Dholakia, officer on special duty (registrar),said,"This step will enhance the quality of students admitted for the PhD course in the university." He further added that the decision taken by the P G Council will be put before syndicate for ratification.
The council has also decided to change the method of granting recognition to teachers for PhD guidance. Now, a committee chaired by vice chancellor and comprising of deans, head of departments and three subject experts from outside the university will scrutinize such applications and then recommend the cases to the council for recognitions of teachers.
