Environmentalist Foundation of India, a wildlife conservation and habitat restoration group functioning out of 5 cities in India, organized D-day as a part of their mass awareness and sensitization efforts to prevent large-scale pollution through use of fireworks on Diwali.
D-Day is a concept event that focuses on bringing in students from across city schools, sensitizing them on the hazards of fireworks usage and convincing them to abandon the practice during Diwali and in any other celebration in the wake of the severe pollution that it causes to mankind and environment.
Students participated in various competitions on diverse themes of Environment and the highlight of the event was the 40-minute musical drama presented by Team EFI emphasizing on the need to abandon fireworks.
The musical drama stressed on the principle of responsible celebrations which do not harm the environment or animals in such a way. The competitions included a Quiz, Junk Art, Public Service Videos, Photography, JAM to Environment Lawyer and Eco Drama.
D-Day saw schools from CBSE, Matriculation and State board attend the awareness program. Specially-abled students from city homes were also present to watch the musical drama.
All the students took a pledge and an action agenda to abandon fireworks for any forth coming celebrations.
The event was organized on the 5th of November, 2012 at T.M. Rajarathinam Auditorium in Adyar.
