Recruiters from over 40 major companies, including IBM, Infosys and Abbott Labs, took part in a job fair organised by Indo-American Community Services (IACS) here.
Participation at the job fair held earlier this week by employers and job seekers far exceeded initial expectations and underscored the importance of the fair to the community, IACS President Sreenivas Katragadda said.
Representatives of eminent companies, including Abbott Labs, Caterpillar, Walgreens, IBM, Infosys, New York Life and ITW, noted that many qualified candidates were present at the fair, organisers of the event said.
What made the event a true diversity fair was the fact that many of the job seekers identified themselves as belonging to different countries, including Valenzuela, Peru, Thailand and several African nations, Katraggada said.
Many of those at the fair said they were currently employed but were looking for opportunities with new employers, IACS Secretary Jagan Bukkaraju said.
"It was heartening to see all the work of volunteers paying off with so many young people getting help with resume critiquing, career counseling and gaining useful tips from panel discussions," he added.
